SÃO PAULO – Covid’s Senate CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) rapporteur, Renan Calheiros, said late last week that he recommended holding President Jair Bolsonaro to account for deaths in the pandemic. The senator said that Brazil “paid the price” for actions and possible omissions by the federal government in confronting the new coronavirus “in lives”.
The final report of Covid’s CPI in the Senate should ask the national congress to indict the president of the Republic for 11 crimes. The report will be read on Wednesday, the 20th, and the forecast is for the vote to take place on the 26th.
